Civilian defense activity forms, 1942-1943.

The Massachusetts Committee on Public Safety was responsible for organizing, supervising, directing, and coordinating local committees on public safety in the cities and towns of the Commonwealth for the protection of the lives and property of its citizens. Civilian defense activity forms are questionnaires and forms returned on a quarterly basis between January 1942 and March 1943.

The Massachusetts Committee on Public Safety was a direct descendant of the Committee on Safety appointed by the Provincial Congress of Massachusetts in 1774 and dissolved in 1775. The Massachusetts Committee on Public Safety was appointed by Governor Samuel McCall on February 9, 1917 and dissolved on November 20, 1918.
